MIT OpenCourseWare has formally partnered with four organizations that are translating OCW course materials into Spanish, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Thai.

Spanish and Portuguese Translations: Universia

Universia is a consortium of more than 800 colleges in Spain, Portugal, and Latin America. The translated courses have links on their OCW homepages directly to the Universia-translated version. The translated courses are available in Spanish and in Portuguese.

Simplified Chinese Translations: China Open Resources for Education

China Open Resources for Education (CORE) is a consortium of leading universities in China that has translated OCW courses into Simplified Chinese. The translated courses have links on their OCW homepages directly to the CORE-translated version in Simplified Chinese.

Traditional Chinese Translations: Opensource Opencourseware Prototype System

Opensource Opencourseware Prototype System (OOPS) is a volunteer-based organization that has translated OCW courses into Traditional Chinese. The translated courses have links on their OCW homepages directly to the OOPS-translated version in Traditional Chinese.

Thai Translations: Chulalongkorn University

Chulalongkorn University is considered one of Thailand's most prestigious and oldest universities. The translated courses have links on their OCW homepages directly to the Chulalongkorn-translated version in Thai.

Other Translations

Since September 2002, when the OCW pilot phase opened to the public, OCW materials have been translated into at least 10 languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, French, German, Vietnamese, and Ukrainian.

Under the OCW Creative Commons license, users are allowed to translate OCW materials into the language of their choice. Translations are acceptable use of OCW materials provided they meet the three requirements of the OCW Creative Commons license: That the user provide attribution of the materials they choose to adapt; that the use of the materials be a non-commercial activity; and that the user share the derivative work openly as OCW is free and open, or "share alike." In addition, any of OCW materials translated into other languages from the original English must be accompanied by the following disclaimer: "These MIT OpenCourseWare course materials have been translated into ________________ [language] by _____________________ [individual or group name].
